Aquaponics

Aquaponics is part of the whole Food Forest Garden concept.

Aquaponics is a simple natural system that mimics nature by growing plants and fish together.  In keeping with the concept of ’symbiosis’ [different species working together to serve each other and the greater system].  Fish swim in the tank, their excreta is a natural fertilizer for plants and the plants in turn provide food and oxygenation for the fish’s water.

A friend of ours Doc Epstein has created his own farm in a box range, using fish and plants.  These farms were developed in his back garden in Atlanta.  He offers a range of farms-in-a-box from tiny one person urban units to larger outdoor back garden systems.  Click the image below to see a video on aquaponics urban style and more info on how to grow fish and food together for your nutritional wellness and taste delight!

Here’s a really cool video from a guy in Australia who’s made aquaponics simple.  We can all begin to grow our own food and there are many ways.
